Tips for Editing Your Own Work - podcast
It's challenging to edit your own book, but there are some tips that can help. Freelance editor Erin Brown gives some practical advice for editing your own work to make sure it's ready for publication. Verify that you are showing instead of telling throughout your manuscript. Review your characters' consistency to ensure that they are distinctive in everything they do and say. To self-edit your work, you also need a keen eye and understanding of grammar. Hmm . . . it is very difficult to edit your own work, especially when most times we read words, not what we actually see, but what our minds tell us what word that is supposed to be there, without the correct spelling or use of word in the right context. Because of this, I have to hire a freelance editor to edit all of my work because there are typos and misused words here and there.

I'm truly agree that it is hard to find own flaw. At some point in the story, often at the climax, the flows of ideas make me care less about grammar, punctuation and dialogue.
