Race and Gender in Hollywood - video
Considering moving your written works into the Hollywood realm? Writer and producer Doreen Spicer talks about the trends in race and gender in Hollywood stories. She says that the industry has changed in recent years, and women directors are in high demand, which means there are women producers who are looking for more women-focused projects. However, it can still be hard to find producers who are looking for African American, Puerto Rican, or Latino projects. As a result, you can find yourself feeling like you have a great universal story that’s being held up because it’s not told with white characters. You may have to figure out how to get the project done on your own, which is difficult. Try to see rejection as an opportunity—a chance to grow and take matters into your own hands as a writer. There are people out there willing and waiting to see what you have in your head and heart.

You would have to be goofy if you did not believe thatb race and gender plays a role when it xcomes to Hollywood. I was enthralled that she did not have an agent for 10 years. A real eye opener to coin a phrase.
