The Art of Finding a Great Book Cover - podcast

Book covers still sell books and Charles Ardai, founder and editor of Hard Case Crime, is committed to design that is as compelling as the story. Ardai's favorite part of the job is commissioning artwork; he is a fan of the pulp fiction style covers and recently worked with Robert McGinnis, creator of many iconic images including James Bond illustrations, for retro-style projects. Ardai has an eye for the artists who can carry on this legacy, particulary younger artists who have been trained in this style. He tells authors: the book comes first, but an effective book cover is still necessary.

    If the theme of the book is about overcoming adversity, is it wise to list those adversities with the solution in bold type? No visual image seems applicable or comes to mind to reflect the idea.

    I am beginning to locate and develop an Author Circle of friends. According to the process I fill a short profile of authors with whom I can communicate. One of the necessary items is an e-mail address. Where do I get them? Permit me to introduce myself. I am joseph Carpitella, first time writer of a book titled, "A Turf Investor's Dream System". I was directed to use www.thinkstockphotos.com to arrive at a cover. However, I do not now the options available. I indented the title one word at a time. 2 horses a neck apart near the finish line centered on book cover. North-east-south-west with 4 other distinct photos relative to book contents. joseph
