If you’re an author looking to build your readership, there is no shortage of effective ways to do so. Author and educator Tara Botel Doherty has three key suggestions for boosting your readership and getting your work out there.
So there are multiple ways you can find one, but also there are some criteria you should use. First, it is possible your self publishing company offers publicists service. I would ask them. Then if they don't or you want to explore other avenues, there are independent book publicists and publicity firms. Three I am aware of are, Lindsey Gobel and Beth Kallman Werner who both present for us on the ALC and Smith Publicity. And no matter who work with, you want to ask some key questions. How many authors have they worked with and how long have they been working specifically with books? What is the process they have and what are you expected to do? What are the deliveravbles they will provide as part of the service and how will they measure their efforts. And can they show you examples of authors they have worked with. I will say there are some firms out there that promote themselves as "book marketing" companies, but they don't have a lot of experience. And one tip off is if they have an unusual address like Wyoming or Beverly Hills or Wall Street. Hope that helps and keep us posted on your journey.
