"Start small, start somewhere, but start." That is author and educator Dr. Mark Eckel's advice for new writers and authors who are experiencing fear, no matter the reasons behind the fear. We are all fearful, he says, whether that's of rejection, of failing, or of something else. New writers must accept that they will be faced with obstacles including rejection, but eventually you will get positive feedback. How can new writers start small? Dr. Eckel recommends getting involved with your local community including newspapers, radio, and libraries. He also recommends utilizing digital formats such as video and podcasts to communicate with and reach your audience. It's important to keep up with technology and industry trends and if you can't implement all of this yourself, reach out to your network for help.
