    Hi Martin -- have you created a book project here on the ALC yet? If not, log in and click on the BOOKS tab from your author space. Create a new project and you'll see that there are three tabs on the screen... one for Writing, publishing, and marketing. Each one lays out some common tasks to complete in that phase of your author journey. Click on the marketing tab and you'll see those tasks. Hovering over the ? icon for a task will show you some content related to each step. You can also search here on ALC for 'marketing' and you'll get more content than you can imagine. :) There is so much you can do. For instance, you can host book events like readings and signings that are NOT in a book store. Instead, host them in places that make sense for the content of your book... like a hospital gift shop, a veterans recovery center (given the large number of our soldiers who deal with brain injury from war), or reach out to the local college's nursing or medical programs and speak to them to offer a non-medical look at brain injuries that may help them better assist their patients. Also, consider joining online groups and communities and follow blogs that relate to the topic of your book. Comment, join in on the discussion, and when it's appropriate to the conversation, mention your book (with a link to it) or your experiences writing and researching the topic, etc... it will have value for the people in those groups. The trick here is to know your audience and then find the places (online and off) where they already congregate... then reach out to the. Readings, signings, speeches, storytelling, maybe even fundraising, where portions of your sale go back to the organization hosting the event. THEY can help you find the audience for the event by marketing the event to their constituents who already have an interest in the topic. Good luck!
