Authors are often intimidated or confused by the book marketing term "keywords". Keywords are simply a way for consumers to search for things online, like through Google or Amazon. They include words or phrases that are related to the product or information that is being provided. Authors should use keywords to make it as easy as possible for readers to find their books. Keywords can be added to Amazon books pages in the descriptions, on an author's website or blog, or in book ads. Per book marketing expert and New Shelves Books Executive Director Keri-Rae Barnum, good keywords for authors to use include genres and sub-genres that describe their book, or even comparable authors or book titles. If keywords are not used effectively, it will be difficult to get your book to rank higher in internet searches.
