For ALC member and author Pamela Orgeron, her book about overcoming her struggles with disordered eating was published, but she needed some help marketing it. That’s when she enrolled in the 3 Phases of Book Marketing program and started improving her marketing skills.
Read about Pamela’s experience below!
The title Food as an Idol developed out of my own realization years ago that I had often allowed food to come between my relationship with God by not honoring my body as God's temple (I Corinthians 6:19-20) through overeating and eating unhealthy foods. After overcoming disordered eating personally, I felt freedom with Christ that I could not have experienced had I stayed in bondage to food.
Food as an Idol offers hope and help to those with disordered eating, including information about the types, causes, consequences, conquering, and prevention of disordered eating. Wanting to reach as many persons as possible, I decided to write an update that would be more "classroom friendly" for use as a textbook in educational settings.
The course 3 Phases of Book Marketing is the one part of ALC that I found the most beneficial. Since I had not made any profits and had not even broke even on the costs of publishing four additional books, I really needed this class. Through the course, I recognized a lot of mistakes I had been making trying to market my books, as well as learning a lot of ways to market my books better.
Word of advice to other aspiring writers: Don't depend on a publisher to market your book. You know the book best and the audience you want to reach. If you have to use trial and error to learn how to use the various social media sites, as I had to do, don't be afraid of making mistakes. Mistakes can be overcome.
The best-selling book for ABC's Ministries, Food as an Idol, offers hope and practical methods to overcoming and preventing disordered eating. This book is an adapted version of the first book published in 2017 intended to reach a broader audience, especially classroom educators. The first book entitled Food as an Idol was born out of the author's own struggle with food and body image issues throughout her childhood and young adult years. Like the first book entitled Food as an Idol, this book also includes sections on the types, causes, consequences, and conquering of disordered eating.
