Amazon: Getting Started Book Selling - article

When you want to make your book available to the masses, you should consider putting it on Amazon. By putting your book online and making it available for purchase on Amazon is equivalent to being displayed in a superstore like Wal-Mart. (Although if you follow the right steps, it won't be as hard, or expensive, as getting into the big name retail giants.)

You can publish your book with a traditional publisher who will put it on Amazon for you. This can take some time and might not be practical for most writers, so you may want to self-publish. In that case you can use an online publishing service like AuthorHouse or iUniverse if you want professional help during the process, or Wordclay if you're a true do-it-yourself-er. These services, and others like them, offer to make your finished book available to thousands of retailers including http://Amazon.com/

Sometimes these services charge fees for distribution and marketing packages, but if you want someone to just handle the details it might be a good investment.

Another option is to self-publishing with Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing. You have the same options for creating your book while reaping the benefit of having your completed book instantly included on Amazon.com.

On the eBook side of publishing, the Kindle’s format and ease of inclusion are great resources for any author. The two-page creation process allows you to fill in all of your book’s details and information, upload your cover, and convert your text into the Kindle format. Then you can select your markets, set your price and royalty rate, as well as see what your profit will be in each of the markets.

There are a ton of options for self-publishing your book. Look around and choose the option that’s best based on your project’s goals and your overall goals as a writer. Then, take action. There’s never been a better time to be a writer!

  • I am looking for the ways to promote on Amazon.  What are the steps?  My book is up and running but I need to get  m ore leverage from Amazon.  First time and I don't have a clue.  Thank you, Brooke Burbach

  • Thanks for the window of opportunity you have provided me. Imagine, I did publish my book: Tragedies of Modernity, with the Iuniverse, which Ebay and Amazon have on their websites since got it through to the guys. But no sales is forthcoming from the publisher for reason I'm yet to really know whether the Amazon or Ebay are effective with marketing any book or is just by choice of getting instruction from the publisher before doing so either.
  • My book Choices: Making an Informed Decision on PARENTING has been on the Market for the past 8 months. My sales are going nowhere. How best can I get it jump started? It is available in Both eBook and paperback formats. It is also available on Amazon, Kindle and in other bookstores worldwide.
  • Thank you Amazon :)
  • John you should be able to republish with any other means you want. I have self published through AuthorHouse and used a marketing publishing contract. I still retail 100% of my rights to my book. My contract was fulfilled when I paid it in full and the first of my books were published. They told me I still retain all rights. I hope this was helpful to you :)
