Three Book Publishing Trends Writers Should Monitor - video

Author, writers group founder, and publishing consultant Patricia L. Brooks has recently seen some publishing trends that writers and authors should monitor. First, big box stores and airport stores are becoming more receptive to independently published books. This has created a new opportunity that has not been available in the past. Second, the digital influence on books will continue to increase. Physical books will not go away anytime soon. People still appreciate holding an actual book but it's important that writers and authors stay on top of digital trends, including social media. Even if that means investing in some professional help. Third, Brooks has seen an increase in hybrid, or partnership publishing. In this scenario the author and the publisher share the expenses. This opens the door for more writers but the key to being successful with this type of publishing is a good working relationship.

  • Thank you Patricia!

  • I am new to the writing process.  My book is a true life love story featuring my dad, Johnny and my mom, Mary.  I inherited their love letters that they wrote to each other during World War II, namely 1942-1945.  It has taken me four years to sort by date, read and condense the 620 letters into a love story form.  I also have pictures to go along with the story.  It is a very unique love story because my Mom & Dad only had three dates in 1942 and then my Dad was inducted into the Army Air Core and ultimately sent to the Southwest Pacific commitment.  They did all their romancing by letter and they truly developed a relationship through this process.  My mom worked at Diehl's Manu. Co. in Manville, New Jersey.  She was assenbling household fans.  Later when the war broke out she helped make amunition and airplane parts for the B-70 bomber.  My Dad became a Radio Repairman and also fixed airplanes, jeeps and cars.  He was also a cryptologist and helped to pass on information to the headquarters.  If you have any interest in my story or have tips for me please let me know at mjjuzwin@hotmail.com.  Thank you.
