Setting up a pre-order for your book is a great way to create buzz and excitement prior to it being officially released. There are a couple of ways that self-published or independently published authors can set up pre-orders for a book before it is released. Book marketing expert and New Shelves Books Executive Director Keri-Rae Barnum recommends using a combination of both Amazon and IngramSpark. Amazon will allow authors to set up a pre-order for eBooks only through Kindle Direct Publishing. To set up a pre-order for a paperback, authors must upload their book to IngramSpark, a print-on-demand service. You can then link this paperback pre-order to Amazon. It's important to know that you have some flexibility with price and with the file version that you upload.
