Utilizing Photos Online - Rights and Protections - podcast
When you need an image for your author website or blog, you may be tempted to grab the first image in your search results. But that's a mistake that could get you into legal trouble. So, which images can you use on your website or blog? Lee Klancher, publisher at Octane Press, suggests looking for images that use creative commons. You can usually find these images online by searching for your image subject plus the words "creative commons." When posting the image, you simply need to give credit to the photographer or website where you found it. To protect your own images online, you can place a watermark over the image. Avoid sharing an image you want to protect on social media website such as Facebook, because in the act of posting the image you give Facebook the right to use the photograph.
