Steps New Writers Should Take Before Getting a Book Published

There’s no need to rush your manuscript, says author, teacher, writing coach, and speaker Mandy Jackson-Beverly. It’s not a race; take the time you need to get your writing in the best shape you can before sending out query letters or self-publishing. Also spend time doing some research – before spending money on editing, marketing, or any other services, talk with other writers and published authors to get an idea of what’s necessary and what’s not. It’s important to understand all aspects of the publishing journey before you get started, otherwise you may end up on the wrong path and spend money on things you don’t really need. Another important part of the preparation process is building relationships with book bloggers and reviewers. When your book comes out, they’ll be the first people you can get in touch with to ask for a feature or review.
