Writing a Captivating Query Letter - podcast
A query letter's purpose is to help you get a literary agent for your book. Like a resume for a job search, the query letter is your chance to get your foot in the door. Your query letter deserves your utmost attention and effort to impress the target audience: your future agent. Gordon Warnock, literary agent and founding partner at Foreword Literary, explains what makes a good query letter. When composing a query letter to a literary agent, make sure that you correctly address the person to whom you are writing. Always double check the spelling of the agent's name and to make sure you start off on the right foot. Also, make sure to follow the submission guidelines specific to the agency, which you can easily find on the agent's website. If the agent feels that you cannot follow instructions, he won't want to work with you on project which requires this very important skill.
