How to Make a Great First Impression With a Book Proposal - video

Knowing how to write an effective book proposal, or at least be able to write a good first draft, is an important skill for all new authors to hone. Author Carolyn Howard-Johnson believes that in order to have an impactful book proposal, it's important for the author to make the time and effort to do the writing, since they know the book best. She suggests starting with a preview section that includes your platform and how you will be a partner in promoting your book. This will help to get the attention of the prospective agent or publisher, and make you stand out amongst other book proposals.

  • Thank you this was very helpful I am new author and learning as I go

  • I like how the author says that nobody has the passion towards your book than yourself.
  • I agree with Audrey C. Hayes that I too liked the topics covered by Carolyn Howard-Johnson on knowing how to write an effective book proposal. Being a new Christian children's book writer, doing a good first draft is a bit scarey. It's like walking out on a diving board, getting ready for the big jump, but not quite knowing how to get all your limbs activated by signaling your brain that it's ok and it will automatallically do the right thing. Lots of drafts are needed to get that secure feeling and go with it. Barbara Barber
