Diane Z. Shore on How Magazines Helped to Get Her First Children’s Book Published - podcast

Inspired by her two-year old daughter, author Diane Z. Shore wrote her first children's book manuscript years ago about a sticker mishap. Focused solely on getting published at the time and not on craft, she spent a year querying editors, only to receive rejections from all. This prompted her to join the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), a professional organization for writers and illustrators of children's literature. It was at one of the organization's conferences where Shore learned about the amazing opportunity that children's magazines offer to new writers. She began submitting children's poems, puzzles and games to several magazines and received her first acceptance from Humpty Dumpty. She soon found much success with getting published in children's magazines, which eventually led to her getting her first book accepted by a traditional publishing house.
