Inspiration struck author, teacher, writing coach, and speaker Mandy Jackson-Beverly while she graded AP Art portfolios one evening. She was incredibly moved by a piece of artwork one of her students had created, and this helped her realize the theme of her story: Jackson-Beverly wanted to write about group of humans and supernatural beings who would protect artists and other creatives across time. With this idea in mind, she chose not to renew her teaching contract and instead decided to pursue writing The Creatives Series. Each of the three books in the series draws inspiration from real-life news stories that address issues of social justice, putting a supernatural twist on it.
