Redwood Publishing owner Sara Stratton encourages all writers working on a memoir or fiction to connect with other memoir or fiction writers at workshops, seminars, and online. This is a great way to find beta readers and perfect your work. You can recruit beta readers from the relationships you make at these events or in online groups. Stratton reminds authors that these other authors want the same thing you do: a beautiful, well-written book. This common goal has created a great community for memoirists and fiction writers. Interacting with other writers can also help you tailor your book to your audience’s wants. Genre-specific Facebook and Goodreads groups give you an inside look into what’s popular in your genre and what readers are most interested in. Use this to your advantage!
I have a fear of joining the groups - afraid they will think I am too new and amateurish. This presentation has helped me to move out of fear and take action. Thank you.
Glad this gave you the courage to move forward.
