Some writers will thoroughly outline their story idea before they begin writing, but humor author Chrome Oxide prefers to start with a joke, and figure out some related scenes or other jokes first. Then he goes through what he calls the "Frankenstein" method and pieces the elements together . He doesn't do heavy research when writing, but will explore topics as needed. For example, one of his stories required knowing if wolves can see in color or in black and white. When writing sci-fi and fantasy, Chrome recommends adding only the fine details needed to make the story believable. Let your imagine do the rest. When revising his stories, he goes through at least twenty revisions, cutting out any excess backstory and adding in scenes or jokes where needed.
