Phillip Done's critically acclaimed biography The Charms of Miss O'Hara was the result of a chance meeting. A big fan of Hollywood starlet Ann Rutherford, Done couldn't pass up the opportunity to meet her when he spotted her at a restaurant. They became fast friends and Done agreed to write her biography. The project began while Rutherford was still living and required a vast amount of research and interviews. He was pleasantly surprised by how one interview led to another, and then another, giving him a substantial amount of valuable content for the book. Done's chose to self-publish the book so that he could time its release with the seventy-fifth anniversary for Gone With the Wind, in which Rutherford starred.
