W. Timothy Wright on the Inspiration For His Book, The Valley Boys

In the summer of 1957, the Indiana towns of French Lick and West Baden decided to merge two high schools that had been fierce rivals for decades. The idea seemed ludicrous at first and caused quite a bit of controversy, especially on the basketball court. But, the two teams managed to come together for an unbelievable and historic season. Musician and author W. Timothy Wright was in the first grade at the time and witnessed this amazing story first hand. He was inspired all these years later to write the book, The Valley Boys, after a chance meeting with the team's coach, Rex Wells. Wright has been impressed by the huge influence that these basketball players have had on both towns and on anyone that knows the story. With America so divided right now, Wright hopes readers will see that we are stronger and better together than apart.
