Stephene Van Wyk I believe poetry definitely has meaning instead of just a rhyme scheme which would make it rap. We forget that it has to have powerful ideas whether we have a ryhme scheme or not. For an example, I think one powerful idea the world never seen, heard or done is IIA. I attended a workshop on Poetry Nation and came across this statement. "Wrong, W. D. Snodgrass imparts, “We cannot honestly discuss or represent our lives, any more than our poems, without using ideational language.”
Poetry is therapeutic in so many ways. Thank you
Poetry takes the mind where the heart fears to go.
I agree with and understand this aspect completely; it speaks volumes! One's experiences and emotions are an insatiable inspiration to let the heart & soul free to express. I love it!
I found myself totally caught up in his words and was interestingly comforted that I could associate with his power of the passion, how one can draw and express from one's innermost core and speak from the heart through the voice of poetry; my book, "Affairs of the Heart", is completely an expression of my life's experiences of love and loss and much of that he had expressed parallels much of what I have felt in writing my book.
