Freelance Writing Opportunities - podcast

The market is tough for freelance magazine writers. Author Meredith Maran discusses the market for freelance magazine writers, how it has changed in the past five years. She also offers tips on how to get started in the freelance market. To get started as a freelance magazine writer, start at small and just focus on getting a published clip. Write for a local weekly publication, and then move up from there. Different freelance jobs have different requirements. Writing a feature piece in a magazine requires more time, research, and travel. Other projects to consider that are less demanding, are book reviews and essays.

  • This is my very first time seeking information from the Author's Center and even just this one video was informative. I look forward to learning and getting ideas from everything this site has to offer. It is the beginning for me and I feel as though I have others, with much more experienced, available for direction. Thank you
  • Thank you. Informative. Writing first book but would like to do articles too eventually.
  • I would like to do this for a living but i have no idea how to start, i've seen some websites that say no experience required but , i'm still a little shaky with that too.
