Can a Writer Ever Quit Their Day Job? - video

Writing a novel demands a lot of time and attention and can feel like a fulltime job. Can a writer ever quit their day job? Julie Castiglia, literary agent, shares the reality of dollars and cents as a traditionally-published author. She says that most authors can’t quit their day jobs, because money from advances and royalties doesn’t come in right away. You might not get the last payment for three to five years later. She suggests that most authors shouldn't quit their day jobs. Of course, there are a few exceptions. But those writers are at a very high level—the literary equivalents of sports stars. Reach for your dreams, but don't quit your day job just yet.
