Ghostwriting can be a challenging aspect of the writing business. A ghostwriter is hired to write literary or journalistic works, speeches, or other texts that are officially credited to another person as the author. For experienced ghostwriter Carolyn Oei, the most difficult part of taking on a ghostwriting project is being able to write in the voice of the person or organization that hires you. To do this effectively, Oei recommends doing your research, observing, and interviewing relevant subjects when needed. She has worked on a variety of ghostwriting projects, most of which she secures through networking and casual conversations. The key to a successful ghostwriting project, Oei says, is to make sure you are comfortable with the topic or subject in question, and know that the final outcome will only be as good as the information the ghostwriting client, and your research, can provide.
