Don't Let Rejection Deter You - video

Rejection happens—it happens to every aspiring author. It's how you handle the rejection that determines whether or not you reach your goal of getting published. Robert Dugoni, New York Times bestselling author of legal thrillers, offers his perspective on the meaning of rejection, how to handle rejection from a publisher, and how to use it as a tool to improve. He says that you can't let the fear of rejection stop you from fulfilling your publishing dream. This interview will encourage you to be tenacious in the face of rejection. It will remind you that even the biggest authors have dealt with rejection, and if they can overcome it, so can you.

  • Thank you for this, yes rejection is not nice. But the best point Robert makes is that you would not actually get a letter at all if you did not put yourself out there to get it in the first place. As an artist when I started to paint and decided to start selling my artwork, the worst thing ever was to take that first painting to the art gallary or the art shop. The best ever feeling was when I sold my first painting and it was a painting I did not like or would ever buy it for myself....but someone loved it and bought it. Wow. I then realised everyone has an individual taste. And now as a writer and after being criticised for not being able to communicate.... if I sell one book it will be wow for me.
  • It's easy to relate to and it's very helpful too!
  • Thanks you for those Words of encouragement every young author need to be plugged into experience authors like you thanks for sharing your input
  • I am writing a book but I can't get it published because they want copywrite permission for all of the pictures in the book. These pictures are from 1944 and the people are no longer alive. Also they want copywrite permission to print a picture of my Purple Heart which was awarded to me in WWII, 1944. Rejection? I don't know what to do? I'm ready to give up. bobb7@atmc.net Can you HELP?
  • This is a great word of encouragement. It has to do with self confidence and the ability to never quit. I have just published my first book, Happiness Is All In You, and it somewhat address this issue. People have to know their values and the value of their works even in the face of rejection. Rejection is not failure; quitting due to rejection is failure. Thanks for this.
