Spiritual Writing: Write Because You Have To - video

Author and agent Bill Gladstone shares his advice for authors writing spiritual books. He recommends that if you are an author with a true and important spiritual message, write and publish because it needs to be communicated—don't focus on the success it might have. In some ways, spirituality is like any other field. If you want people to listen to your message, you need to become an expert share your message through workshops and speaking events. The difference is that if you look at the bestselling authors of books on spirituality, few of them intentionally set out to become financially successful through their writing. They wrote because they felt they had to. So write something with real value. Write something that’s important to you, and share it with as many people as you can. And if it becomes a bestseller, that’s wonderful; but even if it doesn’t, you’ve fulfilled your purpose in writing the book.

  • I appreciate the advice. I found your comments to be very positive and inspirational. My hopes for my book will be to let others know that there is hope to be blessed by God as I have. I truly believe that you can't go wrong with God.
  • I appreciate ur advice.. thanx
  • Thank you for your wise advise. It is so appreciated. I believe if God commands you to do something, then we must do so in obedience to Him, regardless of how you feel. First and foremost obedience in serving Him is the only way to fulfill His purposes for us His children. I have done this regardless whether the book He asked me to write will sell or not. The decision is His. I hope with all my heart those people who pick up the book that has been written will help them in their lives. As God helped me I hope with all my heart I can help others who are like me. Thank you once again for your help. Avril English
  • Thank you Mr. Gladstone for writing your advise on how to better produce a worthy book. My first book, In the Company of Evil, came out in Dec. 2011. It was self-published by Westbow Press. Although they did edit the book I did not go over it as told to do and there are a lot of mistakes. My fault. Please remind those who self-publish to take the time to edit it. Thank you for your informative writing for Author Learning Center so that all may see and learn from you.
  • I made the mistake of thinking I must write the perfect book. Now I'm inclined to do believe I must simply write! To put it another way my focus now is the need to write and not on the need to write perfect!
